Maybe it’s just me, or maybe it’s my age, but the turning of the year seems less important than the act of putting one foot in front of the other every day. Perhaps the real significance is just to say, yes, the old year has passed, with all that was in it; with some failures and some successes; but mostly, it was just the daily accumulation of rising, working, making decisions, holding off on some decisions, connecting, loving, being concerned about, celebrating, planning, changing plans, and finishing the day with rest to gather the steam to fuel the same life the next day.
Still, New Year’s Day is one way we mark the passage of time, and more importantly, is a day to assess where we have been and assert where we want to go. Most importantly, though, is that today is a day we can all share in the hope of a better year.
So, dear friends, Happy New Year!
