St. Louis composer, pianist, teacher, and Ascenda Partner Kim Portnoy, professor of composition at Webster University, has placed a new music video of his song “Please Call Me By My True Names” on his YouTube channel. Set to Thich Nhat Hanh’s poem’s exquisite poem, it is performed by the Grammy-winning American soprano Christine Brewer and pianist Nancy Mayo. Dancing is performed by Abigail LeBaube with choreography by Maggie Due.
Kim’s music is not easy to classify. He is a jazz pianist, and sometimes “jazz” elements can be heard in his music. But these labels don’t work well for Kim. He told me once, “It’s not classical music, it’s not jazz music, it’s just music!”
Be uplifted! Watch this great video.
